Discovering Potential Through Action
Our Philosophy
Many youth who might otherwise end up in the juvenile justice system could be diverted to effective and appropriate community -based services rooted in state -of -the -art, evidence -based interventions. The Koda Program can help young people gain recognition and a sense of accomplishment through positive, productive action rather than through gang affiliations and criminal peers. For juveniles already in “the system,” an individually designed, holistic and comprehensive intervention program could provide them the skills and support to find value in prosocial choices and prevent movement into the adult prison system.

But until a person can say deeply and honestly, ‘I am what I am today because of the choices I made yesterday,’ that person cannot say, ‘I choose otherwise.’

How to Join the Koda Program
- Referrals to the program come through schools, probation, DHS or parents directly.
-
At intake, a comprehensive assessment is completed to determine:
• Risk and criminogenic needs
• Self-concept
• Range of existing skills and competencies
• Academic concerns and difficulties
• A self-assessment of strengths and needs, as well as hobbies, interests, skills, and talents. - Caregivers, teachers and other important support persons are invited to add information and insight. This intake assessment and collateral feedback drive the individualized treatment plan.
- Juveniles are re-evaluated every six months. Caregivers and other important support persons are asked to complete a survey assessing their perception of the juvenile’s progress.
